Shannon Tavarez Died: 11-year-old, Lion King Star, Shannon Tavarez died on Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.
Shannon Tavarez has been struggling with acute myeloid leukemia and passed away on Tuesday. Recently, she played Young Nala in The Lion King on Broadway.
In August, she had received an umbilical-cord transplant from an unknown person as doctors failed to find the bone-marrow match. She had spent most of her time in chi
ldren’s ward of a hospital in New York.
Shannon Tavarez made her first performance at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Later, she got an offer to play the role of Young Nala. Tavarez made her Broadway debut in September, 2009.
“Shannon’s strength and her happy, positive spirit will live on in our hearts and minds each day. Shannon’s dream was to perform on stage, and that she did,” said her mother, Odiney Brown.
She had performed four of eight shows a week till April.
