Michael Jackson red and black leather jacket was initially estimated to draw at least $200,000 from the auction, but turned out surpassing bids for Elvis Presley in Beverly Hills on June 26.
After Two years of his sudden passing, Michael Jackson still managed to bring in a lot of money on his accessories items and dresses.
On Sunday, an iconic red and black calfskin jacket the ‘King of Pop’ wore in his music video for classic hit “Thriller” was sold for $1.8 million at an auction overseen by Julien’s Auctions, The Beatles and Frank Sinatra’s memorabilia.
The Deborah Landis designed leather jacket is signed on the sleeve by Michael and was expected to raise bid among $200,000 – $400,000 somewhere. A share of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Shambala Preserve, which are home to the “Black or White” hit maker’s Bengal tigers Thriller and Sabu since 2006 year.
Darren Julien, the CEO and president of Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, told that, the jacket was sold to Milton Verret, a merchandise trader from Austin. Milton himself revealed he plans to exhibit it at Austin’s Dell Children’s Hospital before sending it around the world in hopes to raise funds for children’s aid organization and hospitals.
Aside from the ‘Thriller’ Jacket, memorabilia from Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and Elvis Presley were also included in the auction.
Among the items, Frank’s 1986 Jaguar was sold for $19,000, while Paul McCartney’s bass guitar went to a bidder for the prize of $14,080.
