The Lion King 3D re-releases of 1994′s saw off on top position at the US box office in its second weekend. Dropping only 27% from last week, the animated film earned around $61.7 million to its domestic cum by adding an estimated $22.1 million this weekend.Dave Hollis, The Disney’s executive vice-president for dramatic sales and distribution, said that the audience for the re-release film increased to 93 percent this weekend. He added that the rising number was because the theater owners saw moviegoers’ interest to the film and adjusted some of their show times.
The runner-up for this week was Brad Pitt’s baseball drama “Moneyball”, opened to $20.6 million in its debut week. The Bennett Miller-directed movie has appealed mainly to older viewers. 64 percent of the audience were over the age of 35 and 49 percent of them were females.Another newcomer, The family adventure “Dolphin Tale” was slated on the third position with an estimated $20.3 million followed by Taylor Lautner’s ‘Abduction’ spotted on fourth spot earned $11.2 million, while fellow new release ‘Killer Elite’ rounded off the top five with $9.5 million.
