Pop/R&B star Rihanna has topped a new feat by surpassing Pop Queen Madonna as a solo artist with 20 Top 10 singles on the chart in the fastest span of time, while Katy Perry tied Michael Jackson’s record as artists on Billboard Hot 100.
The Bajan singer needed only six years and four months to earn such many fastest hits on the weekly rundown. She entered the top-10 list for the very first time with her debut single “Pon de Replay” in 2005 year. In the six following years, she placed at least two singles on the chart before sticking her No. 20 hit with her latest track “We Found Love”.
The Pop Queen Madge lost the act to R&B star by five-month difference, since it took the Material Girl six years and nine months to score such album of hits. The “Hard Candy” singer first made her debut on the United States solo chart with her 1983′s “Holiday”, and then got her 20th top-10 single songs with “Hanky Panky” in July 1990.
Among all acts, Rihanna came-up second as the fastest music act to get the extraordinary feat. She trails after The Beatles, who raced to score 20 hits faster by taking only two years, seven months and one week. The Fab Four made their chart entrance with “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and fixed their 20th with “Yellow Submarine”.
This week, Riri engaged not just one but two positions on the single chart. The “Battleship” actress sat at number 9 with the Calvin Harris-assisted single, and secured the seventh spot with her Avril Lavigne-sampled song “Cheers (Drink to That)”. Therefore, it earned the 23-year-old
solo distinction of having two single songs from two separate albums in the Top-10 at the same time.
