Guess Gibson missed Bond role?
Actor Mel Gibson wanted to play the coveted role of James Bond but was turned down by legendary 007 producer Cubby Broccoli, scriptwriter Tom Mankiewicz has revealed.
Speaking at a Bond convention in Los Angeles, Mankiewicz, who scripted Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun, said Gibson’s 5ft 9in frame took him out of the race for the spy’s role.
“At one point Mel Gibson wanted to play Bond,” the Daily Express quoted Mankiewicz, as saying.
He added, “And Cubby was against it. Cubby first of all had a thing about tall people. Bond had to be tall. And so Mel Gibson was too short. But he was a big star. Somebody at United Artists said to me, Call him and tell him Mel Gibson would be great. And Cubby said, I don’t want to make a Mel Gibson movie, I want to make a James Bond movie.”

Hollywood star Brad Pitt is turning a promotional trip to Japan into a shopping expedition. The actor is looking for a new motorcycle after his favourite bike was damaged in an accident.
The Fight Club actor fell off his motorbike last month after clipping a parked car while weaving through traffic in Los Angeles. He emerged unscathed but his beloved wheels were completely damaged.
Pitt admits he is excited about perusing top motorcycle manufacturers while promoting his latest movie Inglourious Basterds in Tokyo, reported hollywood.com
“I had a little mishap. It was my favourite bike, so that is really sad. I will definitely be looking at motorcycles (in Japan). You’ve got some of the best builders right here,” said the actor.
Actor Dennis Hopper battling prostate cancer
Actor Dennis Hopper is suffering from prostate cancer and cancelling all travel plans to focus on his treatment, his manager told media on Thursday.
Hopper, 73, was released from the hospital earlier this month after his manager, Sam Maydew, said he checked in with flu-like symptoms during a trip to New York and was treated for dehydration.
But Maydew on Thursday was quoted on entertainment website E! Online as saying that Hopper has prostate cancer and is undergoing treatment at the University of Southern California.
“We’re hoping for the best,” Maydew said.
Hopper has been forced to cancel his appearance at an exhibition at the Australian Center for the Moving Image in Melbourne entitled “Dennis Hopper and the New Hollywood,” a collection of his artwork and photography.
In a statement issued from his Los Angeles home, Hopper said he was very disappointed at not being able to travel to Melbourne, but was fully focused on his treatment.
“Obviously his health is the number one priority, and we wish him a very speedy recovery,” ACMI director Tony Sweeney told local media.
Hopper, whose long list of movie credits includes ‘Easy Rider’, ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’ is currently appearing in a television adaptation of the 2004 Oscar-winning film ‘Crash’.
Robert Pattinson wants to marry Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart has parted ways with Twilight co-star/alleged boyfriend Robert Pattinson, as he was too serious about their relationship and wanted to get married, sources say.
The actor was apparently pressurizing her to take their love to the next level and was even stopping her from spending time with friends and family.
“Robert was talking marriage but she told him they needed a break,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling America’s OK! Magazine. The two also had different opinions about settling in a particular place.
The insider said: “Now The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has finished filming, there’s been a lot of tension about the logistics of their relationship as Robert wants to go back to the UK, while Kristen prefers to stay in Los Angeles.”
However, the alleged couple was earlier sharing a suite costing 850 dollars a night at Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel in Vancouver, Canada.
