If you thought Rakhi Ka Swayamvar on NDTV Imagine was a drama, Rakhi Sawant had preserved her best for the grand finale. The live telecast of her swayamvar seemed it would never end as the drama queen did all the possible nakhras and nautankis. Elesh Parujanwala, Manas Katyal and Chittiz Jain seemed like cattle waiting for their buyer.

At one instance when she was quizzed about whom she would get engaged to Rakhi jokingly said she wanted a ’second swayamvar’. The audience burst out in laughter but the three would be grooms held their breathe. With Rakhi in the driving seat anything was possible. It may be recalled that she had walked out of Nach Baliye 3 after she lost in the finals.

Rakhi finally put the garland around Elesh’s neck and exchanged rings with him. The drama queen who had promised to get married by the end of the show has settled for just an engagement. The reason well she wants to know her would be life partner off the camera. Since Rakhi’s isn’t married NDTV Imagine might just have enough ideas to script a Rakhi Ka Swayamvar season two.

India’s first televised ’swayamvar’ concluded here late Sunday with item girl Rakhi Sawant choosing Toronto-based Elesh Parujanwala as her life partner in a unique reality TV show.

In NDTV Imagine’s ‘Rakhi ka Swayamvar’, Rakhi made the final choice from the three finalists — from the original list of 16 contestants in 26 episodes. The other two finalists were young aspirant Manas Katyal and businessman Chhitiz Jain, both from New Delhi.

‘I have been watching Elesh from day one. On and off the camera, he has been the same and has really taken care of me. He is everything I was looking for and I am glad to have found him on the Swayamvar. The swayamvar means finding a jeevan saathi (life partner) and I have found Elesh.

‘Today is our engagement. I am ready to get married now, but we need to understand each other better off camera. We will soon get married in front of all of you in keeping with all our traditions,’ Rakhi said after announcing her choice to a waiting audience across the country.

Decked up in red and gold lehenga-choli by Neeta Lulla and kundan jewellery, Rakhi looked a perfect bride.

Elesh, Manas and Chhitiz too were dressed for the occasion — in traditional sherwanis and turbans.

In the dramatic finale, she garlanded Elesh — as the audience clapped on.

The colourful event, held at the Hotel Leela Kampinsky here Sunday, saw a host of celebrities like choreographer Saroj Khan, actors Ravi Kishen and Ram Kapoor, who posed as brothers to the bride, apart from others like Smita Bansal and Sudha Shivpuri in the audience.

There were numerous reports that Rakhi Ka Swayamvar was nothing but a fake reality show and Rakhi Sawant won’t tie knot with anyone. Now it seems the darker secret of the NDTV Imagine show will be revealed in the final episode when Rakhi will walk out ’single and ready to mingle’. The channel certainly has managed to gain TRP ratings making a mockery of the sacred institution of marriage. For the audience there will be an engagement most likely with NRI Gujarati Elesh Parujanwala.

In an interview Rakhi clarified that she wasn’t tying the knot with any of the contestants but just getting engaged. She said that there won’t be any saat pheres, maang mein sindoor or wearing a mangalsutra now. Rakhi added that it was more of an engagement with the guy whom she has to know well to take the relationship further. The drama queen said she wanted to has date her lover boy off camera after dating him in front of the camera.

This revelation from the television drama queen won’t surprise most of her fans watching the show. Only a handful might have fallen for the bait that Rakhi would actually tie the knot. Although Elesh is the strongest contestant among all, Manas Katyal or Chittiz Jain also have a fair chance to be the Rakhi’s next ‘bodyguard’. It may be recalled that Rakhi had picked up Abhishek Awasthi from another reality show. Well this seems to be another Abhishek in making!

Less than a week to her televised swayamvar an FIR has been filed against television drama queen Rakhi Sawant and five others. A local court in Jaipur ordered filing of case of forgery and violation of Copyright Act against them. The list of accused include the executive director of the show, actor Ravi Kishen and Gaurav Gandhi, the managing director of NDTV Imagine and two others for their participation in the show.

The Judicial Magistrate in Jaipur ordered the filing of the FIR over the use of the word Swayamvar in her show Rakhi Ka Swayamvar. The complaint was filed by Gaurav Tiwari who owns the portal Swayamvar.com Gaurav in his complaint claimed he had the copyright of the script and the word Swayamvar since 2008 and had also shown it to a private channel. He claimed that the scripts was used by NDTV Imagine in the reality show Rakhi Ka Swayamvar in an unauthorised way.

The show whereby Rakhi would choose her future partner from among 16 contestants was to end on August 2 with the first of its kind televised swayamvar. Rakhi had zeroed in on NRI Gujarati Elesh Parujanwala as her life partner. The producers would not mind the FIR as it will surely boost their TRP ahead just when they want it to be the most.
